Training Techniques

These mice were then fed regular diet. F-beta-DHS administered to these groups of mice failed to increase testicular size or number — a result in which male mice showed normal pubertal development due to an overactive hypothalamus, even when F-beta-DHT was injected into the same areas without inducing significant body swelling. However, females in these cultures exhibited a “sex change from ‘nonresponsive’ to ‘hyperresponsive’ during their growth cycles,” which may indicate that their cells were responding to male hormones, Davis said.

It is not yet clear whether these results could apply to humans either — or even to animals, because human females typically fail to develop testicular tissue due to a number of unknown factors, including certain genetic defects, Davis said. For example, many human cells are unable to form testicular tissue.

“In addition, we can’t yet be certain that these findings will translate into humans,” Davis said. “However, we hope that the preliminary data will help us develop better treatments for these complex human conditions, like infertility and menopause.”
